Summer Summit Task Force Update

  1. The meeting with the city was successful, and progress was made toward assembly-space permitting.
  2. We will be meeting with the Council on Aug. 3.
  3. The Task Force will call a special business meeting with the congregation in August when Pastor Mark has returned from vacation.

Community Interviews

The Summit Building Task Force has been interviewing various community business people and subject experts to help us evaluate proposals for the Summit Building space. You can read our interview notes and findings by clicking on the names below.

Alan Braun, Assistant Head of School, Northwest School

Alan is the Assistant Head of School at the Northwest school. The school's culture is designed to respond to the new educational imperatives of globalization, technology, and the development of each child's creative capital. Alan has previously been a teacher and a Peace Corps volunteer.

Dan Cornelius, Community Center Director from Peninsula Covenant Church

Dan is the interim director of the community center at Peninsula Covenant Church. They offer a family-friendly fitness club as an outreach to the community.

Harvey Drake, Sr. Pastor Emerald City Bible Fellowship

Emerald City Bible Fellowship is a multi-cultural congregation located in Rainer Valley, Seattle's most ethnically diverse community. Their new ministry, Urban Impact, is planning to break ground on a 63-unit housing complext adjacet to their current facility in November.

Roger Feldman, Seattle Pacific University Professor of Art

Roger is a leader in the Christian art world and has a working knowledge of how churches all over the world are becoming intricately involved in supporting art and artists.

Jack Hilovosky, Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce

Jack is a member of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, which strives to spearhead economic, business, and community development.

Chip Ragen, Ragen and Associates (Gardens and Vases)

Chip is the owner of the Gardens and Vases shop as well as a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Northwest School board member. Click on Chip's name to read some statistics about retail sales and demographics in the Capitol Hill area.

Rick Reynolds, Operation Nightwatch & Rick Friedhoff, Compass Center

Operation Nightwatch and the Compass Center are our two partners in our shelter work. The executive directors have over 50 years' experience working with the homeless population in Seattle.

Peter Sjoblom, consultant with the Department of Church Growth, Vitality, and Evangelism

Peter really began our journey in revitalization in the fall of 2007 when we invited him to offer a seminar on church vitality. Through his seminar we learned of the life cycle of a congregation and the differences between renewal, revitalization, and redevelopment.

Jim Sundholm

Jim Sundholm was a pastor for more than 25 years in Minneapolis and started more than 18 not-for-profit ministries from within his church, Community Covenant Church of Minneapolis.

Rebecca Townsend, Vice President of Covenant Solutions

Rebecca informed us about the resources available if we find we want to pursue senior or medical ministries. Senior ministries could include a day center -- a place for people to gather and participate in activities like education, exercising, socializing, and eating. Medical ministries could include a clinic to support the needs of our community, a counseling center, or a rehabilitation area.

Interim Facility Plan

First Covenant Church will use our Summit Building facility for congregational use only for the next 9–12 months. We have identified some of the requests in this plan.
